Committee Meeting 14/10/08
Southsider, Edinburgh
Present: Andrew Dalby (president), Mike Squires (secretary), Steven Frenk (treasurer), Ruairidh Ironside (Events coordinator), Steven Kyle (website), Ben Collier (practice room), James Parnell (ordinary member).
Not in attendance : Richard Priestly, Joe Bain, Usmaan Farouqui
1. Nu-Fire
New club night at Sneaky Petes. The organiser wants bands' tracks to play as part of their playlist. As far as we know he exclusively approached UTT. The main focus is electronica but he's happy to play anything we pass his way. They display our logo on fliers, etc and they'd appreciate it if we return the favour. They're playing our stuff so general concensus is "why the hell not?". The place is also being furbished up as a band venue - depending on how this relationship develops it could end up as a reliable place for UTT bands to get an early gig.
On a similar subject, Cab Vol now has an under 18s night so we start grooming fans before they start uni and even get them involved with the society.
2. Venue Directory
Steve is working on this and once he's use to the architecture of the website shouldn't have too much difficulty achieving what we want. Also looking into the possibilty of listing upcoming events in the same directory.
Additionally, the website is planned to be moved to a new server. Colin needs to be spoken to about web fees.
3. Where to hold the weekly meetings?
Native State and Aspen are both looking to sponsor a society to meet in their bars. Andrew is contacting both to find out more.
4. Charity GIg
Nell is organising a gig full of UTT bands for Charity Gigs, its going to be held in Teviot Underground, they'll be a small charge at the door and its all for a good cause. Ommission, Chairman Wow and Celador have all said they'll play. UTT gear may be needed. It was also put forward that UTT would put their own charity gig on in semester two, in conjunction in EUCA.
5. Drumkit
EUSA are replacing our cymbals. We'll be getting a deposit before letting other societies use our gear in future.
6. Practice Room
Cables all working.
New PA speaker needed.
Kettle lead needed.
7. Bank Account
RBS need further proof of ID/Address from all cosigners (that word may be made up).
Tomlin still has the chequebook, need to get it back.
8. SOC stuff
We've tripled our membership since last year and we're still growing. As anticipated we have experienced heavier practice room use. The ball is rolling as far as getting another place is concerned. Meanwhile, Mags is not happy with us - as it stands if someone books out the Grange the day before you're due to practice, then you lose your slot. It sucks, right now we have to live with it. To ease pressure a little and to make sure only UTT members are using the practice room, you and your bandmates will be required to show your UTT cards when you get the cupboard key. If you haven't got your new shiny card, then come along to a meeting.
Steve is gonna put Ben's phone number up on the website so people can get in touch about the practice room: 07597993078
9. Teviot Joint Venture
Plan is to get a couple of grand out of EUSA to pay for high quality equipment for Teviot Underground that all the societies will have access to.
Mike to email other societies to check they're still interested and organise a meeting with them.
Edgar already have a drum kit, Mike to ask them about it and see if we can have a look and give it a scrub with the intention of having them donate it to TU so we only need to worry about getting the money for amps.
10. Spending Money
Gear needed for practice room:
New skins: £80-£100
Kettle lead: <£5
Mic Stand: £25-£30
Scayles has a sale on drum skins at the moment so we'll be checking their and in drum central.
11. Battle of the Bands
Planned for March, in Teviot's debating hall.
Auditions to be held at KB House in January.
We need to start negotiating with various places to secure prizes.
We also need to invite promoters along, possibly as judges.
Last year's president shall also be approached to be a judge.
For auditions, committee members from Edgar, Fresh Air, Indie Soc, etc will be invited to judge. The idea is they won't be biased towards, for example, our president's band, and they'll also get to see some talent they might want to use for their own gigs. It also helps inter-society relations which are more than just an excuse to get drunk.
12. Other matters
jam night: we'd like to organise a regular jam night at one of the union bars where people can bring their instruments along and just play off eachother. One suggested venue is the loft bat, Andrew to speak to them and see what they can do.
rock cherry popping: we'd like to regularly get bands to meet up in the Grange and perform to eachother to build up experience and help put the polish to their songs and stage craft before they actually get up on a real stage.
laser quest: a social thing, couple of games, 20-30 people. Mike'll give them a call and find out costs and whatnot. |
