i had both pa speakers working on friday with 2 mics and a guitar in the pa, we also had the bass amp working
i agree about the peavey not cutting through, iv actually giving up using it in practices
and as for you thinking the guys in the comitee not taking you seriously, iv been to the meetings on tuesday for the past few weeks and each time theyve been talking about getting new equipment once they manage to get the funds to replace the old stuff |

Hey, just to say that we used the room this morning and both the PA and the bass amp were working fine (using tape to hold down the bass amp pot, obviously). The Peavey amp cut out a couple of times but nothing major.
All in all, nothing about the equipment was different at all from the last time we were there, which was over a week ago - i.e. before this thread started.
By the way, I appreciate and understand your frustration Mark, and I'm glad you started this thread to bring attention to the problems. But the attitude you're taking towards this is really unnecessary, and a little ridiculous. I don't know much about the committee but I'm sure they're doing everything they can. Remember, this affects everyone, not just your band.
all the best |

I'd just like to mention that funding IS an option, and quite a tasty one too...
Im on the Drumming Society committee and we just received a very large chunk of money from EUSA to get new drums, and to re-skin the ones we currently have.
Definitely worth checking out, takes 30mins max to fill in that form....
EDIT: you have already applied....good job |

Dude, noone's trying to patronise you - I disagree with your philosophy on the purpose of the society and I'm explaining my reasoning behind my own philosophy on how the society should be run, which as with everything else is just my opinion, this is a democracy after all. We take everyone's concerns about the practice room into account, including yours, however we can only do so much at one time. We have applied for a grant, which we should be getting soon, we are in the process of organising a fundraiser for equipment money. There's no need to get angry. We aren't arseholes, we just want a working practice room too - it affects us as much as it affects you man and we have to take everyone's needs into account. |

Cool,
Good to see that set straight, would love to make it to the AGM but I (including travel) work 13 hours a day so 8pm just might be a little early for me.
Can we at least agree that the equipment is temperamental? It's the 2nd time in recent weeks the speakers haven't worked for us, the bass amp, as you rightly say, has the pot hold fix but it was just completely dead the day (2 days maybe) after BotB. and on recurrence now (and we should have mentioned this, I meant to post this but forgot), one of the speaker started smelling of burning when we were a couple of weeks ago.
Wasn't angry or anything, just frustrated that I thought I wasn't being listened to! Musicians and this ego complex we appear to be prone to... Apologies... |

General FYI - you don't need to 'Sign' bands to get PRS funding - you just need to demonstrate a commitment to helping unsigned bands: http://www.prsformusicfoundation.com/funding/promoters.htm
Mark, sometimes on the forum it sounds like you are making demands and throwing accusations rather than raising concerns. That's maybe why you don't feel that you are always well received.
We both know what it's like to be in the committee but these guys have to be given the opportunity to run the society as they see fit, taking into consideration the opinions of the members. You and I ran the society differently too Lets not forget that people like Ben have resurrected the society from a very unstable position, we should have faith in their ability to make the right decisions for the society.
I do agree that the society has to be self-sustaining though. I used to want to make all of the UTT gigs free but the treasurer wouldn't let me... and just as well too!
BOTB, before it was free, used to make enough money to cover most of the costs of the practice room for the year. It's of course, up to you guys what you do with it but with a couple of quid in per head we managed to get a good profit, buy everyone playing a beer, give the judges a tab at the bar, get decent sponsorship & prizes, and the whole thing had an ace party atmosphere. Though, I will admit that running BOTBs to make money is generally something I frown upon and I'm not beyond reporting promoters I think are taking the piss to the MU - I take a different view if it's for a 'not-for-profit' organisation though.
Anyways, just pointing out an alternative. I've always loved the selfless spirit of UTT and agree that it would be ashame to lose any of that.
Peace out. |

I think that a paid entry BOTB would be a good idea, but we'd need to change the setup a bit from how it is now. |

One of the cymbals has a large chunk out of it. Red Pill inform me it's been like this for some time. |

We are aware of this, we are just waiting on funding coming through before we can replace anything. |

we have an extra cymbal (14" crash) that is not damaged in any way. cymbals aren't even a requirement in practice rooms, most places make you bring your own. |
