I'm thinking of starting a Latin-American band. Boogaloo, Salsa and the like... Some well known songs I have in mind would be the following

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj_XxBKG53g&feature=fvst
etc...
If any of the influences I've posted sound familiar, this will be the band for you!
I'm currently in a band called Captain Pap Artist, and I play drum kit and keyboard (and some other bits and pieces...) - the band is about to break up due to our bass player moving away, and I'd like to take the opportunity to start a new band, and this is something I've been wanting to do for a long time! I would most likely play percussion, Timbales, cowbell, guiro etc - so would still be interested in hearing from a kit drummer for this project, or any hand percussion! I would manage the project, (help) arrange the horn parts, find music, etc. So i could still be looking for a keyboard player too!
Just interested to see what collection of musicians would be interested in such a project... horns (sax, trumpets trombones... flutes?), bass, gutar, keys, percussion.... In particular, I would be interested to locate any vocalists from Latin American countries, or perhaps anyone that can comfortably sing in Spanish.... A lot of bands around seem to be rock based, and I want a change! Who's with me??! |

I have since found:
Bass (double):
position filled
Horn section: alto sax, tenor sax, trumpet:
it will work sticking at this, although all 3 are rather high end - i would consider adding a bassy horn, such as a trombone or a baritone saxophone.
Percussion: currently just me.
I plan to primarily stick to congas, but I have a selection of percussion accessories (shakers, guiros, bell blocks), and there could be a drum kit involved too. I can't split myself in two/three, and these things do need to be layered, so I would consider adding another percussionist. Oh and is anyone has&plays Timbales PLEASE let me know!!
Keys & Guitars
Our frontman singer plays keys&guitar, but cannot do both at once. Would consider adding a keyboardist or guitarist therefore.
Singer
Would like to add someone comfortable singing in spanish |
