Who Are We?

Untapped What-now?
The Edinburgh University Untapped-Talent Society was formed in 1991 with its main purpose to provide Edinburgh's musicians and music lovers with a platform to meet like-minded people. Whether you want to play in or form a band, simply share a love of music or meet decent people for a socialable drink or 10(!) you'll find them at Untapped Talent. We can give access a practice room and the basic equipment you'd need for rehearsing and gigging, and a directory of musicians to help you find people on the same wavelength to form a band with. We meet weekly at a local pub, and we have an active community based around our website, where you can chat on the forums with other musicians and music fans, book the practice room and promote your gigs and your music.

The Committee
The committee are the folks in charge of the day-to-day running of Untapped-Talent. They are a friendly bunch, don't hesitate to get in touch if you've any questions or suggestions! You can email them at untappedtalent AT gmail DOT com. For the most up-to-date contact details check out the committee page. Committee positions are determined by a members vote at our AGM (end of semester 2).

The Practice Room
The Practice Room
Our current temporary practice room is situated upstairs in Kings Buildings House in The Grange. For access to the gear ask at the main reception for cupboard key 10.

How do I get access to the practice room?

You'll need to send an e-mail to untappedtalent AT gmail DOT com with the following details:

Full Name
Username on the Forums
Matriculation Number
Mobile Phone Number*

Then, if our records show that you've paid, someone will give you permission to access the slot booking system. You'll see a 'Practice Room Booking' link appear at the top of your screen when you have permission.

Users are only permitted one slot at a time.

*Mobile phone numbers are required for us to contact you in the event that you forget to return the keys to the practice room, or should unforeseen circumstances require us to cancel the slot. These phone numbers will be removed from our records next September.
The room contains all the equipment that you need for a full band rehearsal: (This is an old list, will be updated with our shiny new gear soon!)

Drum Kit:
  • Pearl Export Series
  • Crash, ride and hi-hat cymbals
Bass Amp:
  • Marshall Bass State B65
Guitar Amps:
  • Peavey Bandit 112 & footswitch
  • Line 6 Flexitone
P.A.:

Events
Weekly Meetings:
We meet regularly on Tuesdays from 9pm in a to be confirmed location (check the News page for the latest location.) Members of the committee will always be available to help you join the society, answer any questions you might have and give advice about venues and gigs in Edinburgh, or just chat about music in general.

We also work in association with a number of other societies and local music promoters throughout the year to provide as many gigging opportunities as possible for our members.

Battle of the Bands
The grand finale to the academic year is always our Battle of the Bands. Our members' bands compete in a traditionally awesome gig in an attempt to impress the judges and win prizes and prestige! Previous years prizes have included hundreds of pounds of vouchers for Drum Central, Scayles and Simpson's guitars, studio time in Bananarow recording studios, goody bags from guitar guitar, free booze from Bannermans and the now-departed Subway Cowgate and much, much more...
Details of how to enter will be posted to our mailing list and on the website nearer the time!

Membership
You can join the society at anytime during term. All you need to do is come along to one of our meetings! This year membership has gone down (we don't believe in inflation)! It now costs the tiny sum of £5.
